Starting out in a theatre troupe, he later received offers from directors and dabbled in cinema with small supporting roles until his role as Quang in the 1995 box office hit "The Bitter Taste of Love" (Vị Đắng Tình Yêu) catapulted him into a national sensation. He was considered the most famous actor in 1990s Vietnamese cinema, and during his career amassed an impressive profile of over 60 films, stage productions, a Best Actor award at the 10th Vietnam Film Festival, a Golden Prize at the 2nd National Theatre Festival, and Favourite Artist by the public votes for three consecutive years.
